The Society was founded in New Delhi in 2007 by a group of about 20 pharmacologists. Letters regarding this proposed society were sent to the Heads of the departments of Medical Institutions. We received an overwhelming and encouraging response. A vast majority of them remained in touch and contributed by participating and providing valuable suggestions. It was agreed that a Society should be founded to meet at least once a year for the reading of papers on various topics of pharmacology related to Basic pharmacology, Rational Pharmacotherapeutics and to promote safe and cost effective use of medicines in the community. The forum could also be used for discussion of questions regarding teaching methodology; issues regarding publications and to promote friendly relations among researchers in the core areas not limited to only those mentioned above. The Indian Society for Rational Pharmacotherapeutics (ISRPT), established in the year 2007, is a national non-profit scientific organisation, which aims to foster rational pharmacotherapy both scientifically and academically, and enhance all aspects of the safety issues of medicines. Main objective of the ISRPT is to foster science and learning in rational pharmacotherapeutics all over India. During the 8 th  Annual Meeting of IRSPTCON 2017 held at Raigarh (Chattisgarh) on February 10-11, 2017, Executive Committee and General Body of ISRPT decided to hold the 9 th  Annual Conference of ISRPT at Aligarh on November 19-21, 2017. Dr. S. Z. Rahman who is a Life Member of ISRPT since 2007 was invited to dispense his duties as Organizing Secretary of the proposed event and the Department of Pharmacology, JNMC, Aligarh Muslim University was proposed to be the host institution.
